buy car
Brian asked:

I am Italian and me and my friend are planning to do a road trip to the US next summer. We plan to first go to New York and then visit a couple states in one month.

We thought of renting but since we’re 22 it would be very expensive. We thought of buying a cheap car and before we leave sell it off. We would lose some money but I woundnt mind.

I have some questions:

- Can an non-US person buy a car?
- What can i buy with $2000? An old convertible muscle car?
- Is my Italian licence valid?
- Insurance or other stuff?

Thanks!

It’s better to rent a car, for 1 month, you can get something like a convertible mustang for $2,000. As you’re under 25 years old, it might be a little more expensive. Let me get some quotes for you. I I’ve been to the US many times, I’m french…

Buying a used car for $2,000 is very risky, and you’ll have all kinds of problem with it…

Budget would charge you $2,500 for a convertible, everything included…
But you can rent also some very good cars at prices lower than this…

You must have an international driver’s license though, it’s very cheap. Go ask to administrative office in Italy, they’ll guide you
