carquoteplease asked:

I have a manual transmission and it is a pain to pull up onto the ramps, but it’s easier to get under the car then with my jack and stand. I am concerned that all of the oil will not drain out properly due to the angle of the oil pan. Does the oil drain better if the car is completely level? I have also jacked the car up to removed the filter and start the oil draining and then lowered the car flat to let it continue draining. Which is the best method?

Level is always better, just remove the drain bolt and lower the car back down to let the oil drain

generally all drainplugs are at the lowest point so i think you will be fine on ramps or jackstands..

That would depend on the position of the oil drain plug.
If you are raising the front only the plug is in the center of the lowest portion of the pan, it will only leave an ounce or two of old oil in it.

i is not a problem.as long as you are not going to extreme angles.the oil plug is at the back of the pan on most cars is it is ok to drain the oil on stands

If the ramps you refer to are common automotive ramps you will be fine. When the oil is drained there wont be a significant amount left in the pan.

Most cars have an indented drain that allows it to just fine ether level or the front raised. The small of oil left in the engine will do no harm.

Depends position of the plug ,always angle it to the drain plug . I usually dump a half quart in then to flush it out .

It depends where the drain plug is. If the plug is at the front of the pan, like every car I have changed oil on, and the front of the car is up on a ramp, all the oil cannot drain, there will be a half-litre or so puddled at the back of the pan. If your drain plug is at the back, it will actually drain a little better on the ramps. If you jack your car up to remove the filter, I hope you put jack stands under the car. A lot of people have been killed by cars coming off jacks, or jacks collapsing. I think if the car is too low to just slide underneath, it pays to go to a change place where the car goes up on a hoist.
