Contours just have numerous problems (they were junk cars) Actually most Fords and GMs are easy to work on plus mechanics will work on anything for money.

It’s not necessarily a question of easier, it’s rather a question of would you still get spare parts for your vintage model?.
Everything revolves around time and money - some older model’s parts are so expensive and scarce, no mechanic would like to repair them.
Stick to Toyota, Opel, VW, etc, and buy on the safe side.

any car before 1980 because of the computer parts. Most of the mechanics that I have talked to always say nasty things on the newer cars because of those tiny components spreed all over the place. One of them can go bad and cause the computer to say that this part is bad when its not and wind up costing you even more money to find out that it was that one or maybe the other one. Been there done that and it cost me over $1000.00 and still didn’t find out what was causing it not to run properly. Look under the hood of an older car and you can see a lot more room and not have to fight to get to anything. So give me one with just the motor, trans, and rear end and leave the computer at home where it belongs.
