destiny asked:

I took my car in because it was leaking antifreeze and it was trying to run hot but it never did, now my oil light is on with oil in the car and my motor has a knock in it. but overall it still has the same problem but worse and I paid them $1600 basically to change the water-pump which they said would solve the problem, which it didn’t. I’m lost don’t know what to do now the auto shop still has my car. Please help.

Call a lawyer tomorrow morning and have them give you legal advice.

That is difficult water to tread alone. Talking to a lawyer would be better, since your local laws can determine what your options are.

The only thing worse than a medical malpractice suit are the mechanics !:) but seriously, mechanics will never admit to shoddy workmanship and will invariably blame the OEM for lousy parts, so it will be a vicious circle that you do not want to get into. Having said that, taking legal action against them depending on the severity of your issue should also be considered, it won’t be an erin brockovich, but it will keep them on their toes.

Assuming that they are not lying to you on the water pump, Ask them to check for any leaks, any gaskets/ sealants that have worn out. Since you have paid for the water pump, ask them to return the part to you and check the details on the pump (traceability wise) so you can directly take this up with the OEM, if they validate the water pump has issues, then you can use this against the mechanic to challenge him and ask him why. See if the lube oil has been drained and replaced.

Like i said, its a bit murky, but you’ll learn a LOT.

The work done on the engine in order to change the water pump should have no bearing on the oil and knocking symptom. The auto shop, which still has your car,may be as perplexed as you are.I have to tell you that it really seems as though the engine was in a bad way before this happened and luck brought it to a head while at the shop.

destiny, I had similar problems with my Ford Taurus and last month. Get a free auto warranty quote and see if you can get the policy before you need to get your car fixed.
