grace r asked:

I bought a new Honda Accord in April, 2006. It s been driven barely over 8000 miles and I havent gotten into any accidents. Couple of months ago, the car stopped while running on a highway 60mph and I took it to a dealer. They could not find any problems with the car yet it stopped again after I visited the dealer. I have contacted Honda customer service and the case manager has opened up a case for this issue. However, I left for a long-term business trip overseas and couldnt get in touch with her so the case manager has put the case off until I come back. I am not sure of my return date so I have asked her to deal with my brother regarding the issue or communicate to me through emails yet Honda has not done so. I want to resolve the issue as soon as possible and I want to make sure that there is nothing wrong with the car. How can a car stop if there isn’t any problem with the car like the dealer has told me??? Can anyone think of solutions for this situation???

My experience is more with Ford, but I think that most manufacturers respond in a similar fashion. First, the possibility always exists that it was an isolated incident that will never happen again and you should always consider that.

Second, you may want to consider taking it to another dealer to see if one of their technicians could identify the concern. Fixing automobiles is more similar to a doctor diagnosing a patient than fixing a bike in that it is not really an exact science. You might take it to another dealer where this kind of an incident has already happened and they know how to address it. Also you may want to ask the level of certification of the technician looking at the vehicle. It may have been looked over by a technician fresh out of school when a seasoned Master Technician is in the next bay.

Lastly, if you are convinced that there is an issue (continues to happen), manufacturers always have field engineers who will go to your local dealer to look at the vehicle when there is a problem that the technicians at the dealer cannot fix/diagnose.

Hope this helps.
