he knows what he’s talking about BUT on some cars u need to shim the starter or it will ***** on you. Shims give you more of a spacing inbetween the starter and flywheel so you dont have the flyweel ***** the starter when trying to start the car.

I replaced a starter w/solenoid on a 93 bonneville we had bought with a new starter from Advanced Auto Parts, and now it whines real bad on start up. I took it out and re-installed…same results. Whines real bad. I made sure it was sqaurely and evenly installed both times, but it didnt matter.
The old starter worked fine right up until it went out and never had any whining noises. Also there wasnt any shims attached to it. So I have no idea why it’s whining.
Any ideas on what to do? Thks
