Major cities have auto auctions. There is a large one in Nashville.
Also many banks auction off repo cars. Do a web search for Auto Auction and see what you find.
Your best option for a lower price is through a private seller. Naturally newspapers, Thrifty Nickel and other similar publications may offer some choices. But beware, some of these so called private sellers are actually dealers disgusing as a private seller. It’s easy to spot these simply by calling first, inquiring about the car and then ask them if they are the owner or a dealer.
You may also consider repos through banks and credit unions, your choices will be limited but then again you may find something that suits your needs.
I’d stay away from auctions and online sales, you can’t properly test drive or even inspect these vehicles.
